Boston Celtics Honor Special Olympics MA

On Monday, March 23, 2009, the Boston Celtics highlighted Special Olympics Massachusetts throughout the night as they took on and beat the Los Angles Clippers.  It was an amazing night for Special Olympics Massachusetts.  At the Celtics request, Special Olympics athlete Jerry Smith sang the National Anthem; it was the twelfth year in a row that Jerry has been given this honor.  For the singing of the National Anthem, Jerry was joined at center court by Garnett Hancock, Carlos Noqueira, and Randy Taylor, athletes from the Friends of Special Olympics program in Danvers.  Garnett, Carlos and Randy served as the honor guard presenting the United States, Massachusetts and Special Olympics Massachusetts flags during the National Anthem.

Midway through the second quarter, Paul Healy, a SOMA coach for Westboro, was presented with The Heroes Among Us Award.  He was nominated by his entire team and they each sent in a letter of support to the Celtics.  During the on-court presentation, the Celtics displayed a picture slideshow of Paul and his team on the jumbotron.  Paul was then joined by one of his athletes at center court.
