Nearly 60 Special Olympics Massachusetts athletes are ramping up their training to prepare for their own elite competition in Lincoln, Nebraska at the 2010 Special Olympics USA National Games. Athletes from Massachusetts will join over 3,000 of their peers selected for superior abilities in their disciplines, July 18th – 23rd at the premier event of the summer. The Games feature thirteen sporting competitions including aquatics, basketball, bocce, bowling, golf, gymnastics, power lifting, soccer, softball, tennis, track and field, volleyball and the chosen introductory sport, flag football. The athletes will enjoy an experience abundant in Olympic tradition featuring: Opening and Closing Ceremonies, a Torch Run public awareness event prior to the Games, and cultural activities along with over 30,000 fans during the 6-day period.
