What a whirlwind day for Team SOMA! Let’s start with the good news: Billy Harris of Duxbury took gold in singles tennis. George Kent and Jeff Bramley took gold in unified golf. Scott Merrill and the Unified Team of James and Mike Ciociolo took bronzes in golf, and Tyler Lagasse shot his personal best and is coming home with a silver medal. The Aquatics team racked up 2 gold medals, 6 silver medals, and 2 bronze medals with a day and a half of competition left. Women’s track and field brought home 2 golds, 1 silver and 2 bronze; they complete again tomorrow, along with the men.
The basketball team lost their morning game by 3 points, then rallied in the afternoon, beating Connecticut. The soccer team entered the medal round undefeated, but lost to Wisconsin in a heartbreaker consisting of double overtime and penalty kicks. They were brave in the attempt and go for the bronze tomorrow morning.
Many athletes spent this evening with family and friends, while the coaches had a well-deserved night off. Tomorrow is the last full day of competition; the weatherman is predicting 98 degree weather with high humidity and a heat index well over 100. Yikes!
