Team Massachusetts arrived home on Sunday, July 25th after a whirlwind week of competion and special memories at National Games. Both the Soccer and Basketball teams earned bronze medals and played very well in their last games. Track and Aquatics athletes continued to rack up the medals, as did our bowlers and bocce teams.
Closing Ceremonies at the Devaney Center was fun-filled and lively with several musical acts winding down the event. The Youth Activiation Council, which met throughout the week in Omaha, presented information and projects surrounding Project Unify. Finally the flag was lowered and the torch was extinguished for another 4 years.
The trip to Boston was not without drama, as all 4 groups of the Massachusetts Delegation had flight cancellations or delays. Whether they were detoured through Denver or Dallas, everyone was in Massachusetts when the clock struck midnight. The soccer and basketball teams were met at Logan by a crew from WBZ-TV.
Team Massachusetts wound up with a total of 66 medals, as well as hundreds of great memories, new friends, and different experiences. Everyone who went to Lincoln, coaches and athletes alike, say they’d do it again!
