David McInerney has experienced many life changing events since becoming an athlete with Special Olympics Massachusetts over five-years ago. In a few weeks, the Westford resident looks forward to joining around 7,500 athletes with intellectual disabilities from 185 nations in Athens, Greece for the 2011 World Summer Games. McInerney is an accomplished equestrian who is honored to be part of the six-member delegation representing Special Olympics Massachusetts at this elite competition.
Since becoming an athlete, McInerney has become more confident in all aspects of his life, especially his weekly riding lessons where he aspires to achieve excellence. His focus as an athlete has also translated success in the classroom. Sports have aided him in honing his focus to achieve academic honors at Westford Academy.
McInerney is described by family and coaches as an excellent team player who enjoys group dynamics and participating in group activities like school musicals and soccer games. He is thrilled for the opportunity to travel to a new place, experience a new culture and meet new friends while also representing his home state and his country. Good Luck in Athens!
