The 5th Annual Special Olympics Massachusetts (SOMA) Golfathon, presented by ITG and International Trading, took place on Monday, September 26 at Turner Hill Country Club. The event, which consisted of 36 holes of golf, raised over $130,000 to support the athletic training, competition, and health-improvement programs for SOMA athletes. The event was a tremendous success thanks to many Champions, and the festivities closed with a visit from the greatest Championship Trophy in all of sports, The Stanley Cup (which of course currently belongs to our friends at the Boston Bruins)!
SOMA Champion golfer Tyler Lagasse once again led the charge, serving as captain of “Team Lagasse”, a team that raised over $5,000. SOMA athlete Nate Simons also competed and excelled in the event. In addition to the presenting sponsors, many corporate “Champions” supported and participated in the event including Vandham Securities, Instinet, Canaccord Genuity, Collins Stewart, Eaton Vance, CB Richard Ellis New England, Family Medicine Associates, and Nomura.
The event winners were PUMA Golf, a team that consisted of SOMA coach and volunteer Paul Karrlsson-Willis, Matt Almeida, Len Laresca, and Stephen Moses. The real winners, of course, are the athletes of Special Olympics Massachusetts! This event ensured that hundreds athletes will be able to train and compete year-round in Special Olympics! Over 5 years, the event has generated over $675,000 for the athletes of SOMA! Kudos to all of the “Champions” who helped make this another spectacular event!
