Hyannis Athlete Heads to NBA All-star Game

Kerri Gilroy is an accomplished basketball athlete with Special Olympics. She competed at the Special Olympics National Games two years ago and typically spends her winters training for the annual state Winter Games (March 10-11th in Worcester). This year Kerri’s focus has been a little different as she was invited to participate in the debut, NBA Cares Special Olympics Unity Sports Basketball Game. The experience is part of the 2012 NBA All-Star Weekend, February 24-26th in Orlando, Florida. Kerri will be one of twelve athletes from across the country to participate in this very special event which represents the power of Special Olympics and Unified Sports.

Kerri will have the opportunity to play side-by-side with twelve, top-notch Special Olympics teammates as well as NBA and WNBA players and legends. They will share an extended weekend full of fun, events, friendship and basketball. Beginning Friday afternoon Special Olympics athletes will have the opportunity to participate in a service project, enjoy NBA Jam Sessions and watch the best of the players in the league when they take to the court in the 2012 NBA All-Star Game.

Kerri and her teammates are eagerly anticipating being introduced on the Amway Center court Saturday evening during the NBA All-Star event. And of course, they are thrilled to play in the NBA Cares Special Olympics Unity Sport Basketball Game on Sunday. They will also have the opportunity to  participate in a basketball clinic with players and legends. Other highlights of the weekend will include: giving back to the local Orlando community on Friday afternoon in a service project designed to support locals in need and attending the NBA Welcome Reception Buffet on Saturday night.

Kerri is honored to have been selected for this once-in-a-lifetime experience. She looks forward to meeting fellow athletes from across the country and she is also excited about interacting with NBA players and legends at such a prestigious event. This will be one winter Kerri will never forget.
