Home of the Champions

By Amanda Church

The 2013 Special Olympics flag football state tournament was the best one we have ever had. All the athletes and their teams got to run through the helmet and get high fives from a lot of great volunteers and staff. But that is not all.  The athletes also got the honor of meeting Robert Kraft, and a few of the Patriots players, including a very special Patriot, quarterback Tom Brady! All the athletes were excited and inspired. Tom said, “You are all champions, this is our house and we are happy to have you here.”

My team the Bridgewater Bears, coached by Sam Baglioni, played three games and we won the silver medal in our division at Gillette Stadium. Coach Sam had a powerful girls defensive line. Coach Sam said I had a very defensive game. I even sacked the quarterback twice. I am proud to be apart of Sam’s team. Our team is very proud to have such a great coach and amazing Unified partners.

All the athletes and their teams that participated at Gillette Stadium should be very proud. They gave everyone in the stands a great show. All in all, the 2013 Flag Football State Tournament was a huge success.

On behalf of all athletes and Special Olympics Massachusetts staff, I would like the thank our friends at the New England Patriots Charitable Foundation  for opening their doors to us year after year.
