The 2014 Special Olympics Summer Games was by far the best Summer Games we have ever had. The weather was perfect, but to top that off, we had incredible Opening Ceremonies. I had the honor of emceeing Opening Ceremonies with Lauren Hopper at Boston University’s Nickerson Field. It was a lot of fun and I hope to emcee at Summer Games with Lauren again real soon.
We had great entertainment by both the X-Band and by one of our Special Olympics cheerleading teams. They were both awesome! It was also very rewarding to see all the athletes that are going to Special Olympics USA Games this upcoming weekend at Princeton, New Jersey, take part in Opening Ceremonies. We wish them the best of luck.
This year at Summer Games all Special Olympics swimmers and Unified track teams got the opportunity to compete at BU. Swimming at BU’s pool was a blast and I am sure that my team, the Easton Tigers , would agree with me that we had great competition. I am sure all the Unified track teams would say the same.
My team the Easton Tigers had another fun and exciting year at Summer Games. Two of our relay teams won a gold medal. I competed in the 25-meter breaststroke, and the 100-meter breaststroke, and I took home the gold medal in both my events. Everyone on the Easton Tigers team should be proud of their achievements. Every Special Olympics athlete should be proud of themselves for how much they have accomplished, whether you competed at BU or Harvard.
The dance on Saturday night was awesome. Everyone had a great time, meeting new people, dancing with friends, and just having a fun night. It was just awesome.
Summer Games 2014 has come to an end, but it will not be long before we have Summer Games 2015. Thank you to all the Special Olympics Massachusetts staff, officials, and volunteers for another outstanding Summer Games. Without your help we would not be able to do what we do best.
I hope you all have a great summer and thank you for another successful Summer Games.
